Message from the Chair
Message from JALT CALL 2000 Chair
I am very pleased
to have the opportunity of both chairing and hosting the next annual conference of the
CALL SIG. The
School of Media Science at Tokyo
University of Technology is only one year old, young enough to look brand new and feel
state-of-the art, and old enough to be running smoothly.
I am grateful to
the many members of CALL SIG who have stepped forward to volunteer their assistance for
the event as well as for the enthusiasm shown by presenters and commercial
representatives.
CALL is a young
and exciting discipline. Whether you hope to present or simply attend, please come and
join us on 10-11 June 2000.
The program can be found at: http://anny.kinjo-u.ac.jp/~houser/jcp/
PLEASE NOTE! This is a tentative schedule at this point as some
small changes by the conference committee may become inevitable before the conference,
please make sure to check back regularly.
It's still OK to register your name for
JALTCALL. The registration
page will remain open until 23:59 on June 8th, 2000.
I look forward to
welcoming you.

Message from the CALLing Asia 1999 Chair
Since our modest
beginnings only a few years ago, the JALT CALL SIG hasincreased the scale of membership,
publications, and conferences, culminating in last year's event: "CALLing Asia,"
held at Kyoto Sangyo University.
I am happy to say
that in 1999, we broke all records in terms of attendance, number of presentations,
commercial sponsorship, and many other aspects, setting a great challenge for this year.
Thus, I am very pleased that Ali Campbell and the team at Tokyo University of Technology
have taken on this task of bringing you this year's CALL SIG Conference.
The challenge is
indeed great, but so is the experience, expertise, and knowledge held by the conference
committee, and I hope that you - as presenter, participant, helper, or sponsor - will help
to make this the greatest CALL event of the year.

Paul Lewis
Conference Chair, 1999
