Welcome to JALTCALL2000!
The annual conference
of the Japan Association for Language TeachingComputer-Assisted
Language Learning Special Interest Group (CALL
SIG)will be held at Tokyo
University of Technology, near Hachioji, Tokyo,
on Saturday-Sunday 10-11 June 2000, with activities planned also for Friday 9th and Monday
12th.
Whether you are a
computer guru with an interest in software development, a teacher wanting to find new ways
of exploiting technology in the classroom, or a beginner who would like to get to grips
with the basics of CALL, this conference is for you.
It is the year 2000,
the 7th anniversary of the JALT CALL SIG,
and about 30 years since CALL first became visible on the horizon of language education.
We think it is a good moment to pause, reflect and discuss. What has been achieved in CALL
so far? In which ways is it developing currently? The subtitle of this year's conference
is thus: "Directions and Debates at the New Millennium".
At the conference you
will be able to attend a variety of formal workshops and
presentations, as well as mingle informally with colleagues from near and far
with similar interests. There will be representatives
from many firmscatering to the needs of CALL practitioners, plus the chance
to win prizes of books and software at our Networking
Receptionon the Saturday night.
The campus of Tokyo University of Technology
is just South of Hachioji, and about an hour by train from either Shinjuku (travelling
West) or Shin-Yokohama (travelling North). The site is vast and beautiful, with lakes,
waterfalls and gardens. Mount Fuji is visible, peeking over a nearby hill!
It's still OK to register your name for JALTCALL. The registration page will
remain open until 23:59 on June 8th, 2000.
We look forward to
welcoming you to JALT CALL 2000.
