Statements from each of the candidates are below:

Candidate 1: Brian Gallagher
Dear JALTCALLSIG Members, I know that your time is precious and so is your opinion, so I shall keep my statement short. My name is Brian Gallagher, and my record with JALTCALL is long and productive:
11 years JALTCALL Member and contributor (since 2014)
JALTCALL Conference site chair twice. 2018 & 2024
JALTCALL PanSIG Liaison 7 times 2016/2017/2018/2022/2023/2024/2025 (+2017 Journal Editor)
JALTCALL Podcast Producer & Team member since 2024 (14 episodes so far)
JALTCALL Conference Treasurer twice 2016/2017
As a triple-postgraduate in Education (specialising in Online and Distance Education) I feel that I am qualified to represent the SIG and our members and to talk to other academics and teachers in the field. As a professional teacher licenced to teach Biology in secondary education, and as a science graduate (Physiology and Sports Science), I hope that I can represent you well and understand your situations as varied as they may be.

I trust you may know me well enough and how I get things done. So, I ask kindly for you to entrust me with your vote and your confidence that I shall strive to hear your opinions and to try to bring to fruition your ideas and preferences as to how we shape not only our conference but our professional offerings to you including our publications (JALTCALL Journal, JALTCALL Trends, JALTCALL Podcasts, and our Forums and Symposiums).

Candidate 2: Robert Swier
Dear friends, over the past two years, it has been my honor to serve as President of JALTCALL. In that time, I’ve worked tirelessly to strengthen our organization by deepening our ties to the greater JALT community and improving our professional partnerships with CALL organizations around the world. Together, we’ve made real progress. Since returning to in-person events in 2023, our annual conference has grown each year, and our 2025 conference last weekend was one of the largest and most international in our history. We’ve started new programs, launched a new journal, and strengthened our leadership team. But our work isn’t finished. With your support, I’m ready to keep moving forward. Let’s continue this journey together.
